What Qualifications do you need to Become a Trainer?
As in any area of professional credentials, there are a number of different Train the Trainer qualifications available.
The QQI awards are the best known on the Irish market. These awards were developed after the FETAC Train the Trainer award was deactivated in 2014.
They are a more in-depth approach to training skills and knowledge. These awards are named:
- QQI Training Delivery and Evaluation (sometimes just referred to as “Train the Trainer”)
- QQI Training Needs Identification and Design
- QQI Special Purpose Award in Training and Development
There are other higher level qualifications, some at third level. However, the above courses are hugely popular with those who want to achieve confidence, skill, and certification in a focused amount of time.
Train the Trainer Qualification: An Introduction
As mentioned above, these current QQI awards were developed to replace the old FETAC Train the Trainer qualification.
As with the old course, they focus on a 4 step cycle that is important to all those who train others: The Training Cycle.
There are 4 steps within the Training Cycle:
- Identifying training needs
- Designing training
- Delivering training
- Evaluating training
As you may have guessed from the names of the current QQI courses, they focus on two stages of the cycle each.
The old FETAC award did cover all steps, but the new QQI awards provide a greater depth of knowledge and detail on each stage.
What is Right for Your Training and Development?
There is no “right” place to begin in achieving your Train the Trainer qualification. Which award you choose will depend upon your interests and goals.
